What are the differences between silk and dental tape?
Floss has a circular arrangement and the dental tape is wide and flat. Both are effective in the elimination of dental biofilm. The choice between silk or dental tape depends on the preferences of the consumer, and this will favor to create a positive habit in your daily oral hygiene.
When is the best time to use silk / dental tape?
It is recommended to brush your teeth and clean the interproximal spaces with silks / dental tapes three times a day.
Should its use be before or after brushing?
In any case it is acceptable, as long as the patient performs a thorough oral hygiene. If you use silk / dental tape before brushing, the fluoride in the paste can penetrate better into the space between the teeth.
How to use it?
Cut about 50 cm of ribbon or silk and wrap most of it in the middle finger of one of your hands. Roll the rest on the same finger of the opposite hand; This finger can pick up dental floss as it is used.
Hold the tape or silk firmly with the thumb and forefinger, leaving a distance of 2 or 3 cm between the fingers of each hand and with a gentle saw movement insert it between the teeth.
Hold the tape or silk tight against the tooth and move it up and down by rubbing it against the tooth surface. Never apply it violently against the gums.
When the tape or silk reaches the edge of the gums, curve it C-shaped against one of the teeth and gently slide it into the space between the gum and the tooth until you feel resistance. Repeat with the rest of the teeth without leaving any to be cleaned.
